THIS TIME, DR DOUG ASKS THE QUESTIONS AND A PATIENT RESPONDS

Diet and exerciseI was recently emailing my patient J.R. and the topic of his upcoming 90th birthday was on my mind.  We ran into each other in Las Vegas ten summers ago when he was having a party for his 80th, so I thought I’d ask him his secrets for making it to 90.   In his response he captures so many of the ‘keys’ to a healthy and long life…..exercise, moderation in all things related to diet, a nurturing spirit, engagement in life, and a good dose of humor.

Doug, for sure nothing formal. I really can’t  pin point  why I will be making 90 in 4 months. I have been taking Vitamins for many years. Some you have recommended and some I have been taking prior to meeting you. I have exercised for many years but in moderation. The last 15 years, eating meat on rare occasions  , Mostly chicken and fish. Red wine and dark chocolate for past few years, Fruit everyday and vegetables. Of course in the last 17 years having a wife that is loving and understanding has helped. She is the wind under my wings. But, I believe it has to do with Genes (I prefer Levi’s , myself).  Is that good enough?
